Kilian Jornet estrena película “Langtang” sobre el Nepal y lanza proyecto construcción 116 casas. (Barcelona, 12DIC)

Kilian Jornet sigue adelante con su proyecto “Summits of My Life”, un reto personal que arrancó para batir los records de ascenso/descenso en grandes montañas de la tierra y con los años ha evolucionado de forma más compleja hacia una relación muy personal con las montaña.
En las dos primeras películas de Kilian, “A Fine Line” (2012) y “Déjame Vivir” (2014) el componente de reto deportivo tenía un peso importante. En esta tercera, “Langtang” el foco cambia por completo, ya que el multicampeón del mundo en carreras de montaña, no corre, sino que comparte con nosotros reflexiones y experiencias sobre lo vivido en Nepal.

Proyecto “Summits of My Life”
Kilian Jornet estrenará el próximo 12 de Diciembre en Barcelona su tercera película: “Langtang”. Tras el éxito de la inaugural “A Fine Line” estrenada en Mayo de 2012, su segunda película llegó en Marzo del 2014 con el título “Déjame Vivir” nueva cinta sigue enmarcada dentro de su proyecto personal Summits of My Life.
Por tercera vez se trata de una obra dirigida por Seb Montaz, pero si la primera y segunda cinta recogían los retos que Kilian Jornet y su equipo afrontaron durante 2012-13 en montañas de toda Europa, esta tercera nos traslada al Nepal post-terremoto, el retorno a un lugar que ha supuesto un impacto personal especialmente intenso para Kilian.

“LANGTANG”, VINCULADA A UN PROYECTO SOLIDARIO: Tal como refleja la imagen de arriba, con la que la web oficial de Kilian presenta esta tercera película, estamos ante un relato del viaje a Nepal que Jornet y su equipo realizaron tras el terremoto del pasado mes de abril. En este caso, además desde Summits of My Life se ha vinculado también la cinta a un proyecto solidario, con el objetivo de recaudar fondos para reconstruir 116 casas en el Valle del Langtang.
En abril de 2015 Kilian Jornet y su equipo, formado por el alpinista Jordi Tosas y el cámara Sébastien Montaz-Rosset se preparaban para una expedición al Everest dentro del tercer año del proyecto Summits of My Life. Dos días antes de partir, Nepal fue víctima de un fuerte terremoto que golpeó dramáticamente en el país y muy especialmente el valle de Langtang, donde Jordi Tosas tiene grandes amigos.

Ante el drama humano producido, el equipo decidió viajar igualmente al país y echar una mano en diferentes proyectos, dejando de lado el reto deportivo. Durante aquellos días pudieron constatar cómo la naturaleza puede convertirse en verdugo implacable de Nepal y de sus habitantes. Pero sobre todo, “Langtang” es también un homenaje a la generosidad de un pueblo que sigue dando cuando ya no tiene nada.
“Langtang” se aleja de las dos anteriores películas de la serie Summits of My Life. Por primera vez, se dejan de lado los retos deportivos y se documenta la experiencia de los días posteriores al terremoto, donde el equipo fue de los primeros en adentrarse en el valle del Langtang. Sus emociones también quedan reflejadas en la película: en un primer momento sentiremos la confusión que vivieron los personajes, pero acabaremos por encomendarnos de la alegría vital del pueblo nepalí en una cinta que, finalmente, se convierte en un canto a la vida ya la esperanza por un futuro mejor.
Declaraciones Kilian Jornet: “La experiencia fue dura para todos nosotros. Por un lado por Jordi Tosas, que ha estado 27 veces en Nepal y es un país al que le tiene mucha estima, pero también lo fue para mí. En el Langtang fue donde descubrí por primera vez las montañas de Nepal y le tengo un aprecio especial.
El pueblo de Langtang desapareció con un desprendimiento y darnos cuenta que todo lo que conocíamos ya no existe fue muy duro, y creo que Seb Montaz lo ha sabido transmitir muy bien a través de esta película.
Creo que es clave en estos momentos ayudar al pueblo de Nepal. Nosotros siempre hemos podido disfrutar de su hospitalidad y amabilidad, y ahora son ellos los que están en dificultades. Si podemos, es importante poner de nuestra parte para ayudarles”.
Declaraciones Sébastien Montaz-Rosset, director: “Langtang ha sido una experiencia muy especial para mí, nunca había filmado con tanta intensidad emocional. Esta historia podrá parecer dura, pero desprende una gran dosis de optimismo. Prepararos para entrar en un ring de boxeo con un solo ganador: el pueblo de Nepal.”

Langtang, the third film of Kilian Jornet’s personal project Summits of My Life, was presented at a press conference this morning. Directed by Sébastien Montaz-Rosset, Langtang is the story of a journey into the heart of Nepal. The film narrates the experience of Kilian Jornet, Jordi Tosas and Sébastien Montaz-Rosset in Nepal, where they had planned to travel to go on an expedition to Mount Everest. Two days before leaving, a powerful 7.8-degree earthquake shook the country. Nonetheless, the team decided to go ahead with the trip and travelled to the country “to give a helping hand where needed”. In Jordi Tosas’ words, ‘Langtang is our travel diary; we recorded instead of writing. We did not go there to make a film, we went there to help. Now we have a film that will help.’
Kilian Jornet along with mountaineer Jordi Tosas, presented the third film this morning. The official film premiere will be tomorrow, 12th December at 19h30 in Aribau Multicines. Jornet explained, ‘I am very happy to see that people continue sharing our passion for these challenges and the mountains, especially this year, when the Summits of My Life has turned out differently. We climbed another type of mountain and that will give us the strength to face Everest next year.’
Another team member, mountaineer Jordi Tosas, explained how deeply the trip to Nepal affected them: ‘Reaching Nepal was kind of unreal; it was a reality bite, which went beyond anything one can possibly imagine. I had been in Langtang just a month before and it had been amazing. Going back there was like entering hell: there were no roads, no houses, only debris and dead bodies. I could feel the absolute devastation of a valley, the sadness of having lost many loved ones and the helplessness of not being able to do anything. But I also felt committed to start working towards ensuring that Langtang could become the place it had once been.‘
The film premiere will be tomorrow in Barcelona and entrance tickets can be purchased on the website.
Summits of My Life will contribute to the reconstruction of 116 homes in Langtang
In addition to the film, the charity which Summits of My Life will collaborate with was also presented at the event. It will do so by associating with SOS Himalaya, in order to contribute to the reconstruction of the Langtang Valley.
‘After the experience in Nepal we realized that we wanted to continue helping the people of Langtang, who have lost everything. After our return from Nepal we went into action and, along with SOS Himalaya, we devised a project that fits very well in the Langtang Valley. SOS Himalaya is a charity with whom we share many values and we are very pleased to start this collaboration,’ explained Kilian Jornet.
The earthquake of last April brought serious consequences to the Langtang Valley. The Langtang village was completely buried after the quake triggered a landslide of snow, ice and stones, due to the large amount of snow accumulated during the really tough winter. In addition, the shock wave from the landslide caused serious damage to nearby villages. The few survivors of the disaster were evacuated to a refugee camp in Kathmandu, and although some of them have returned to the valley, the earthquake left them homeless.
Therefore, Summits of My Life and SOS Himalaya are promoting a campaign to raise funds to rebuild 116 homes: the number of families which have been left homeless and want to return to live in the Langtang valley. The reconstruction of these houses will be following the typical Nepalese architecture, known as ” ‘Jasta Pata’: zinc plates placed on a wooden structure.
Besides the materials to build the ‘Jasta Pata’, the main cost of reconstruction will be transportation. Access to the Langtang valley, which was already complicated, was damaged after the earthquake. That is why materials will have to be transported by air. Houses will be rebuilt in different parts of the valley, as no building can be done in the area where the original village of Langtang was located.
Summits of My Life will collaborate in several ways to collect the necessary funds. Among them, all profits raised during the film premiere in Barcelona will be donated to this project. In addition, the project opens a fundraising campaign to raise the goal amount: $ 58,080.
Head of SOS Himalaya Maria Clement declared: ‘A lovely collaboration is starting today, because we share the way Kilian perceives the mountain. SOS Himalaya has undertaken many projects since the earthquake and this new one will help to continue developing our activities in the Himalayas. Also, having an initiative backed up by Summits and with the support of Kilian himself will definitely be very beneficial.‘
